Alaska Laborers Training School - Anchorage
The Alaska Laborers negotiated one of the first training programs in the Laborers International, when they developed their training program with the Associated General Contractors, Alaska Chapter in the early 1970’s. The United States Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training later approved a two year, 4000-hour apprenticeship program in the early 1990’s.
Alaska Laborers/Alaska General Contractors Apprenticeship School Facts
The Alaska Laborers/AGC training facilities are located in Anchorage and Fairbanks. The main training site is located on the Old Seward Highway between Huffman and DeArman Streets in Anchorage. This site consists of 35,000 square feet of buildings, including office, classroom, storage, dining and dorm facilities. This facility, acquired by the Board of Trustees in the late 1970’s was formerly the Edgewater Inn. The school has been used by thousands of laborers for training over the last 25 to 30 years.
